Traveling to Work from “Home”

If you’re one of the many people who made the sudden shift from the office to working at home this year, you’re probably ready for a break. Working from home can be ideal for some people — less distractions, more flexibility, less unnecessary meetings — but it’s likely you’re starting to feel a little burned out by this point. So, how can you take a break and allow yourself to recharge without falling behind at work?

Fortunately, in many different industries that have suddenly shifted to remote working, the only tools you need for your job are a laptop and an internet connection. This means working from home doesn’t necessarily have to mean working from home — the possibilities are nearly endless!

Whether you want to take advantage of a nice day and shift your work station outside (although, nice weather is getting harder to come by here in Minnesota), head to a coffee shop patio for a change of scenery, or really live it up during the work day by taking a work-from-home vacation, this change of pace is an exciting opportunity that wouldn’t have been possible for many people in years past! In a year that has been marked by mostly unfortunate experiences, it’s important to look towards the bright spots — for some, this has been the benefits offered by working from home.

In today’s blog, we’ll be thinking about some tips to spice up your work-from-home schedule, and some benefits offered by breaking out of your routine for a while. And, if you’re one of the many ready for some much-deserved excitement, contact Dreamy Destinations by Ellen for comprehensive personal vacation planning. As your personal Minnesota travel agent, I’ll help you plan the getaway you deserve!

Find the Perfect Balance of Productivity and Rest

We all have different work preferences — maybe you’re absolutely loving your new freedom at work, or maybe it’s causing you to go a little stir-crazy. Either way, spicing up your routine can be an ideal solution to make your work day much more enjoyable.

A working vacation should be thought of differently than a traditional vacation — rather than thinking of it as a vacation where you still have to be productive, think of it as the greatest days or weeks you’ve ever had at work! You may find it much easier to be productive throughout the day with a beautiful backdrop for your work, and you can recharge in the evenings and on the weekends with the features your destination has to offer. Spreadsheets and meetings are certainly more palatable if you know the beach is waiting for you on the other side!

A working vacation offers benefits both mentally and financially. It’s an excellent way to break a mundane routine and allow yourself to recharge, refresh, and attack the workday with newfound energy. It’s also a great way to take a trip without using up limited vacation days or going without pay — you can keep the paychecks rolling in while you enjoy a beautiful destination! While many companies won’t mind where you work as long as you’re available to be reached, if you plan your trip right, they may not even realize you’re out of town!

Where in the World Should You Work?

The most exciting aspect of a working vacation is that your office can be nearly anywhere in the world! One of the main considerations to keep in mind is the quality of the internet connection at your destination, something many destinations have taken into account. A popular 2020 travel trend is resorts offering “work from hotel” packages, providing eager workers with hotel rooms, cabanas, and other beautiful amenities, all with high-speed internet.

One enticing option is to spend your workday in a luxurious resort in Jamaica, Mexico, the Caribbean, or another picturesque resort location. If you’re looking for a more private getaway, renting an Airbnb is another great option, and opens up nearly any location you can imagine for your destination. Maybe you feel you’d be most productive looking out the window at a forest, or retreating to an idyllic countryside scene. All of these options can be considered for your work-from-home trip!
